(Oakland) The Creston Panthers scored 204 points and won a team championship Saturday at Riverside’s Wrestling Invitational with 204 points. West Sioux edged out Logan-Magnolia 183.5-179.5 in a tight battle for 2nd. Rounding out the top five were Clarinda with 133 and Aurora, NE with 131.
There were 21 teams in the field including five from the immediate coverage area. Harlan was 6th with 121 points, AHSTW placed 8th with 95, ACGC came in 11th with 57 points, Riverside was 12th with 53, and Audubon 15th with 43 points.
Harlan’s Luke Musich earned his 100th career victory en route to a runner-up finish at 132. The Cyclones crowned one champ which was at 182 pounds with Zane Bendorf. Luke Freund (126) and Jesse Jens (106) each placed 3rd. Earning 4th were both Matt Schwery (195) and Jeremiah Davis (220).
A championship at 170 from Denver Pauley highlighted AHSTW’s day. Pauley also picked up his 100th career win during the tournament. Hayden Fischer was the 138 pound runner-up. Other place winners for the Vikings included Jaicob Madsen 4th at 285, Garrison Gettler 5th at 160, and Henry Lund 6th at 220.
ACGC had five wrestlers end up on the stand. Cayden Jensen had the highest finish with his 3rd place finish at 152. Also for the Chargers Gavin Sloss placed 5th at 113, Tegan Slaybaugh came in 5th at 120, Dawson Muller was 6th at 160, and Bryce Rochholz was 8th at 195.
Riverside had two seniors make the finals. Jace Rose pinned his way to the 126 pound finals where he lost a 5-2 decision to take 2nd. Nolan Moore at 152 had two pins and a decision victory before losing to Logan-Magnolia’s Wyatt Reisz in the finals. Taven Moore placed 7th at 120.
Cooper Nielsen’s runner-up finish at 220 marked Audubon’s best finish. Nielsen had three pins on his way to the finals. Alex Hansen was 5th at 138. Heavyweight Alex Foran placed 8th.
