(Atlantic) Tony Davidson scored 17-points to lead Creston past Atlantic 55-48 in Hawkeye Ten Conference boys basketball on Friday night at Atlantic.
The Panthers and the Trojans played step-for-step throughout the entire game. Colton Rasmussen knocked down a two-point shot, and Creston countered with seven-straight points and grabbed a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Cael Turned paced the Creston offense with two-three-point shots, and Davidson added three baskets from close range. Caden Andersen scored six-first quarter points to keep the Trojans within arm’s length.
The Panthers opened up an 18-13 lead at the six-minute mark in the second quarter, but the Trojans battled back, tied the game at 20-20 midway through the frame, and outscored the visitors 8-5 down the stretch. Templeton drew the hot hand with ten second-quarter points to put the home team up 28-25 at the break.
Creston raced out to a 9-0 run to start the second half and never trailed, holding a 40-38 lead after three quarters and 49-45 with one minute remaining in the contest. Creston slowed the tempo leaving Atlantic no choice but to foul. The Panthers connected on seven free throws outscoring the Trojans 7-3 in the waning moments of the contest for the 55-48 win.
Davidson scored 17, Cael Turner, 12, Kyle Strider, 9, Patrick Varner, 8, Avery Fuller, 6, Ethan Crawford, 3, and Derek Paup, two points to lead the Panthers.
For Atlantic, Dayton Templeton led the way with 14-points; Ethan Sturm, Caden Andersen, and Colton Rasmussen each scored 8, and Carter Pellett, and Jayden Proehl, two each.
Atlantic drops to 0-4 and hosts Kuemper on Tuesday. Creston is 1-2, and travel to Shenandoah on Tuesday.
