(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board approved four change orders for the Atlantic Middle School Fire Restoration Project of $233,690.05. The funding source to pay for the changes comes from the Insurance Company, Physical Plant and Equipment Levy fund, and the Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) Fund to provide property tax relief.
The change orders involve installing down ceiling tiles, replacing the majority of rooms with carpet versus hardwood flooring, repurposing the damaged area of the central office into a classroom, and redesigning the main entrance for two levels of the secured access. The payment source will depend on the cost of these changes.
In late July, an accidental fire originating from the roof of the structure caused significant damage to the interior of the building. The damage estimate is between $5 and 6 million dollars. The reconstruction continues through the remainder of the school year.
