(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning approved a resolution vacating and closing a portion of 570th Street contained within the State of Iowa right-of-way for Interstate 80.
Cass County Board of Supervisors Chairman Steve Baier read the resolution which states that the intent of this road closure is to vacate all of 570th Street contained in the State of Iowa right-of-way for Interstate 80.
No objections to the closure were received in writing, but several objections were made by persons in present at the open meeting held on October 29.
The resolution states that the remaining roadway segments of 570th north of Boston and south of the Cass/Shelby County line will remain a Class A roadway and Cass County Bridge #460 will remain a priority; and in the event a bridge inspection recommends a posting under a legal 80-thousand pound load, remedial steps to alleviate the deficiency will be taken and be a priority.
After the Supervisors approved a motion to place the resolution back on the table, the Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution to vacate that portion of 570th Street at Interstate 80.
Scott Suhr, with the DOT, had explained during the public hearing on October 29th that about six years ago the DOT did a study of Interstate 80 from the Nebraska border to the Illinois border and as part of that study one of the things they looked at were low volume roadways over or under the Interstate that they could close because of the high cost of the construction of a bridge. The County would receive money from the DOT for the closure of the bridge to use for other bridge projects in the County.
