(Avoca) AHSTW jumped out to a 9-0 cushion and didn’t allow a score for the first six minutes of the game in a 54-38 girls basketball victory over Riverside on Tuesday.
The Lady Vikes were led by 21 points from Delaney Goshorn. The sophomore hit five 3-pointers on the evening and scored 10 points early in the 3rd quarter. The home squad start the 2nd half on a 12-0 run, led by Goshorn’s hot shooting.
Riverside had fallen behind by double figures late in the 1st quarter, but battled back within 19-13 at one point in the first half. AHSTW ended the 2nd quarter on an 8-2 stretch and led by double figures the rest of the way.
The Lady Vikes went 11/16 at the line in the first half and 14/20 in the game. Ellie Peterson scored nine while Ella Langer and Saydi Paulsen each contributed seven points. Riverside was led by Elly Henderson’s 12 points. The freshman scored eight after halftime.
AHSTW is 1-2 on the season heading into a matchup with Underwood on Friday. Riverside starts 0-1 and will host IKM-Manning in their next outing.
