(Atlantic) The Atlantic Area Chamber’s annual Scrooge Contestants brought in a record amount this year with 2,299 food items and $24,177.25 in cash.
Atlantic Bottling made a last minute donation to make this a record breaking year and that donation was unanimously agreed upon by all of the Scrooge Candidates. Ray Paulin with Atlantic Bottling has been named this year’s Scrooge.
Eleanor Hoover, who passed away in 2019, organized the contest beginning in 2002. The Scrooge contestants raise money and collect non-perishable food items for the Atlantic Food Pantry.

Ken Burkhart with the Atlantic Food Pantry thanked the candidates for all of their hard work. He said the past year has been a whirlwind of unpredictability and they are seeing a lot more people at the pantry.

Ray brought in 401 food items and $8,621 in cash (total points 43,506). Tom Cappel, with Deter Motor Company and the Atlantic Fire Department, came in second with 933 food items and $8,419.28 in cash (total points 43,029.40). Kelli Anstey, with Fareway, came in third with 965 food items and $7,136.97 in cash (total points 36,649.85).
Ray Paulin will be the Grand Marshal of the Lighted Parade on December 4th at 6 p.m. in downtown Atlantic.
Last year the four Scrooge Contestants brought in $23,348.10.
