Edward Jay Elwood, the son of Joseph and Gladys (Carper) Elwood, was born August 11, 1947, in Red Oak, IA. He died November 17, 2021, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE, at the age of 74 years, 3 months, and 7 days.
Ed attended school at Stennett and Elliott, before graduating from Griswold High School in 1965. While in high school, Ed worked for his father, driving a cob truck to Omaha. On April 10, 1966, he was united in marriage to Vickie Carlisle at the Griswold United Methodist Church. After graduating, Ed began trucking with his brother Ike. He worked for many different companies over the years, most recently Green Belt Trucking.
Ed was a member of the Elliott Church of Christ. He enjoyed going for coffee and driving his truck.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings: Bill, Ike, Dale, Robert, Warren, and Joe Jr.
Ed is survived by his wife Vickie of Griswold; his children: Dan Elwood and wife Katie of Stanton, IA, Kevin Elwood and wife Shana of Treynor, IA, and Chris Elwood and wife Callie of Mount Ayr, IA; his grandchildren: Britany Schoning and husband Jared, Kreighton Elwood and wife Kamden, Trevor Elwood, Kaleb Elwood, Dalton Elwood, Kennedy Elwood, Karson Elwood, Karly Elwood, and Tristan Elwood; his great grandchildren: Harper, Madelyn, Lincoln, Blayklyn, and Kaynley; his brother Gordon Elwood and wife Mary; and his sisters: Mary Louise Kille, Jean Pope, Linda Gute and husband Vern, and Judy Blay. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. A private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery at Elliott. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, November 21, 2021, from 3-5 PM, at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott Cemetery Fund. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
