(Area) Duck season is open in all three of Iowa’s hunting zones.
The birds are moving in according to Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR. “It is here. Mid-November is the peak of the migration for ducks into the state of Iowa. When we are talking about ducks a big focus is on the mallards.”
Hayes points out conditions have changed in the past couple of weeks. “Two weeks ago we had significant rainfall and some strong north to northwest winds, even some freezing temperatures a couple of weeks ago that brought some ducks into the state. Those conditions brought a push of birds. We saw an increase of 34% in duck numbers after that weather two weeks ago.”
Goose numbers went up 38% in that same time period.
