(Des Moines) The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs Wednesday announced it is awarding more than $1.5 million in grants for the return of the state’s arts, culture, history and creative sector by supporting arts and cultural jobs and programming in the humanities.
In total, 236 individuals and organizations – representing 70 communities across 56 Iowa counties – will benefit from $1,527,814 in one-time grant funding, made possible through the agency’s state/federal partnerships with Arts Midwest, the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities with federal funds through the American Rescue Plan Act.
Here in southwest Iowa: the Wallace Center of Iowa in Greenfield received $14,500 for Program Manager Support; Corning Opera House Cultural Center in Corning – $5,000 for Director, Janitor, Musician; Guthrie County Arts Council in Guthrie Center – $4,500 for expansion of job opportunities; Emily McQueen of Glenwood – $3,500 for The “Cut Off” Collection; Anna Stoysich of Malvern – $2,500 for creating an outdoor public ceramic sculpture; Jorge Chavez Colorado of Malvern – $2,500 for Loess Hills paintings project; Wilson Performing Ars Center in Red Oak – $5,000 for jobs for artistic contracted personnel; Susan Woodford of Shenandoah – $3,500 for Art Emerge; Ann Brugenhemke of Council Bluffs – $2,500 for Hale Replacers; Pottawattamie Arts Culture & Entertainment in Council Bluffs – $7,500 for Strengthening PACE’s Creative Workforce; Historic General Dodge House in Council Bluffs – $15,000 for job support for two full time staff positions; Union Pacific Railroad Museum in Council Bluffs – $18,000 to retain full time education coordinator; Historical Society of Pottawattamie County in Council Bluffs – $6,580 for restoring staff to resume museum hours and programming; New Century Art Guild in Elk Horn – $7,500 for Vet-X-Press Art workshops for Veterans; and Museum of Danish America in Elk Horn – $18,000 for exhibitions and program staff support.
