(Area) It is opening weekend of trapping season.
Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR says most of the regulations have remained the same as in the past with the exception of adding two counties to the bobcat harvest zone. “Those being Delaware and Jones County in Eastern Iowa.” Hayes says, “Otherwise really status quo for the trappers.”
Hayes says trapping data dates back to the 1930’s with surveys of furs sold. Since 2018 a fur harvester survey has been collected. “It not only includes the number of furs sold, but the number of traps set, the number of days out there, the hours of effort.”
A list of locations where furs can be sold is available on the DNR’s website at IowaDNR.gov
