(Atlantic) Day 3 of the State of Iowa versus Alison Dorsey trial resumed in Cass County District Court on Friday morning. Dorsey is on trial for the death of an infant while in her care in October 2019. The State charged Dorsey with First Degree Murder and Child Endangerment.
Prosecuting Attorney Monty Platz called Dr. Kelly Kruse of the State Medical Examiners Office to the stand. Dr. Kruse assisted with the autopsy of the deceased infant Luka Hodges.
Defense Attorney DeShawne Birdsell, during her cross-examination, asked Dr. Kruse if she stood by an earlier statement that the manner of death was undetermined.
The State had no further questions and rested its case. Defense Attorney DeShawne Birdsell called her first witness, Forensic Pathologist Dr. Ljuvisa Joean Dragovic, to the stand. Dr. Dragovic also performed an autopsy on the deceased infant and summed up his evaluation to the court after appearing on the stand for over an hour.
Dr. Dragovic’s testimony ended the morning session. Court resumed at one o’clock this afternoon with more testimony for the defense.
