(Greenfield) KSOM Sports will bring you a Class 2A, Region 3 volleyball contest on Wednesday. The featured matchup has 15-14 Nodaway Valley at 21-11 ACGC.
The Wolverines are coming off of a 3rd place finish in the Pride of Iowa Conference Tournament. Coach Allison Kiburz was pleased with the way her team responded after a tough loss in the semifinals. “The girls really switched their energy and their mentality and raised their play. That’s something we’ve stressed all season so that’s something we’ve been really proud of.”
Maddax DeVault leads the team in kills with 248 kills. She is one of just a few seniors that have been in the regular rotation. “This year has been an interesting year. Last year we had a group of seniors that had played all four years. So losing three of those key starters was really difficult and kind of unpredictable where we were going to be. Honestly I think we’ve been at a more improved play this year than some people expected. We’ve had a lot of sophomores come in and compete.”
Seniors Whitney Lamb and Rose Lonsdale have been mainstays along with several sophomores. “Whitney Lamb and Maddax have been pretty consistent for us. Lindsey Davis played last year for us, but this year is the setter so she has a lot bigger role for us. She’s been playing pretty well. Bella Hogan has really stepped up as a sophomore.”
Against ACGC they’ll be facing UNI commit Chloe Largent who averages a Class 2A best 5.5 kills per set. “I’m not going to lie she is our main focus coming into this. She is a threat.”
The winner will oppose either SW Valley or Panorama in the regional semifinals on Monday. Prematch coverage comes on the air at around 6:45. The first serve will be at 7:00.
