(Oakland) Two 5-1 football teams will get together Friday night in Oakland. KSOM will be there for play-by-play of a pivotal Class A, District 7 game between SW Valley and Riverside.
A lot is on the line when the Bulldogs host the Timberwolves. Riverside coach Darrell Frain says, “The first thing I said in the huddle Friday night is basically the playoffs have started. Any team of five can place 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. Everybody is playing each other the next two weeks so it’s going to be a real interesting couple of weeks.”
Riverside responded in a big way last Friday night with a win at Missouri Valley. One week after suffering their first loss of the year, they came back with a 59-14 victory. “I was a little bit concerned, but we had a pretty good bounce back. Putting up 59 points is a good bounce back. Austin Kremkoski led the way and had a great night. Rhett Bentley had a great night. The offensive line stepped up for us and we really needed that to get some progress going into the last two games.” Austin Kremkoski in Week 6 went for 258 rushing yards on only 11 carries. He passed for 199 yards and had a hand in six touchdowns.
SW Valley is a very formidable opponent. The Timberwolves have rattled off a five game, including a dramatic 15-13 decision over a very good Earlham team last week. “They have one of the better offensive and defensive lines that we are going to see all year. We are going to have to get creative on what we do. It’s going to be an extremely difficult challenge for us.”
It’s crowded at the top of the District 7 standings in Class A. SW Valley is 4-0. Earlham, Mount Ayr, and Riverside are all 3-1. KSOM will have the game on the radio on 96.5 FM with audio streaming at WesternIowaToday.com. Our In the Huddle show kicks off the coverage at 5:15 p.m.
