(Anita) The CAM football team has won 12 straight regular season games.
The top rated team in 8-Player according to the Associated Press scored three touchdowns in the final 3:23 of the first half to break the game open in a 66-6 homecoming win over Exira-EHK.
Lane Spieker ran 25 times for 297 yards and six touchdowns. He topped 5,000 career rushing yards in the win. Spieker scored on runs of 40, 18, 51, 4, 28, and 69 yards.
The Cougars turned to the air more often than they had in previous contests and found some success. Sam Foreman, Joe Kauffman, and Colby Rich all had a TD grab. Spieker passed for two of the scores–a 45 yarder to Kauffman and a 49 yarder to Rich–while Ethan Follmann hit Sam Foreman on a 35 yard touchdown early in the 4th. On the night they completed six passes for 166 yards. Their total rushing output was 315 yards. Reese Oglesbee, Nolan Hensley, and Gavyn Jessen paved the way up front.
CAM’s defense got good pressure from defensive linemen Cade Ticknor, Colby Rich, Reese Oglesebee, and Gabe Rouse. Joe Kauffman made a nice diving interception along with recording a couple of tackles for loss and 6.5 total tackles.
Exira-EHK played back and forth with CAM for much of the 2nd quarter. The Spartan’s lone TD came on an 11 yard pass from Trey Petersen to Derrek Kommes with 5:27 to go in the first half. Petersen passed for 51 yards and a TD along with 26 rushing yards. Tyler Kingery ran for 19 yards and had three catches for 33 yards.
The Cougars go to 6-0 on the season heading into a home clash with Coon Rapids-Bayard in Week 7. The 3-3 Spartans will host Boyer Valley next Friday night.
