(Atlantic) A pair of former Cass County employees will keep their insurance coverage at the county’s expense for an additional two months. The Cass County Conference Board met on Thursday evening to act on the matter.
Insurance coverage for the two former employees was set to expire October 31st and they would have to pay out of pocket expenses for the months of November and December. The County absorbing the hit will cost approximately $9,200 for the remainder of the year and the money comes out of the Assessor’s budget.
Massena Mayor Phil Przychodzin expressed his reservations.
Bernard Pettinger, of the Cass County Board of Supervisors, also spoke in opposition.
Atlantic Mayor Dave Jones along with Supervisors Steve Baier and Steve Green all voiced support of the former employees keeping their insurance benefit and Green made the motion.
Both Green and Supervisors Chairman Steve Baier disagreed with Przychodzin in terms of their decision opening up a can of worms.
Jones called it “The Atlantic way to do things. The right way.” Stating, “It’s a bad blow and not their fault.”
Cass County Mayors voted in favor 5-1 with the lone no vote from Przychodzin. Schools represented included CAM and Griswold and they each voted in favor. The Supervisors voted 5-1 in favor with the lone no vote from Pettinger. This resulted in a collective 3-0 decision.
A separation agreement will be drafted and presented to the two former employees to sign.
