(Anita) It is homecoming week for the undefeated CAM Cougars. Their opponent on Friday night will be 3-2 Exira-EHK.
CAM coach Barry Bower says the Spartans do a lot of great things and are well coached by Tom Petersen. “They have the likes of Trey Petersen that does a nice job of running their offense. He’s really the catalyst of what they do offensively, but also I would probably say defensively as well playing middle linebacker. Trey is a very, very smart kid.”
To say Lane Spieker has bean leaned on heavily may be an understatement. The senior accounted for every single rushing attempt in the team’s big win at Audubon last week. His 1,833 yards from scrimmage account for 80% of the team’s total yardage. But coach Bower indicates they could be Spieker’s work load over the next few weeks. “There’s some things that we are going to try and start to do the last half of the season to be multi-dimensional. We have the guys to do that we just have to make sure we have it in the game plan ready to go and kind of alleviate that stress off of Lane just a little bit.”
The Spartans are coming off of a 37-30 win over Bedford while CAM prevailed last week 58-42 in a major showdown with Audubon. Of course, coach Bower has the team on alert about an emotional letdown. “I said the exact same thing Friday night. Enjoy this, but we have some ball games left to play. One of the things that stands out is homecoming and all the distractions. I don’t care about all this hoopla, I just want to go out and win a game on Friday night and do the very best that we can. That’s got to be our focus.”
KSOM will have the broadcast of Exira-EHK at CAM. The In the Huddle show gets the coverage started at 5:15 p.m.
