(Atlantic) The Atlantic High School, graduating class of 1970, planted a tree on Saturday afternoon by the east drive at the Atlantic High School. The class planted the same type of tree 51-years ago on the east side of the City Park.
Dr. Tressa Wilcox, a member of the Class of 1970, says the student council and other class members planted the tree over a half a century ago in honor of a former Atlantic biology teacher. The planting also commemorated the first-ever Earth Day.
Classmate Sam Hunt spearheaded the planting a little over one-half a century ago. Hunt, a horticulture major in college, who eventually became a doctor, drove the tree to Atlantic. Current AHS students dug the hole for the tree and helped plant and water the tree.
