Patricia Nan Simmons, 84, of Wiota, Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Ramsey Village Nursing Home in Des Moines, Iowa.
Patricia was born March 9, 1937, in Grant County, Indiana, the daughter of Loval and Mildred (Parson) Hughes. She attended Paris Crossing High School graduating with the class of 1955.
On October 4, 1958, she married Ralph Henry Simmons in North Vernon, Indiana. In 1974, the family moved to a farm north of Anita, Iowa, where Ralph worked for the Wayne Feed Co. until he started farming full time. As for Patricia, she was a devoted mother and was a bus driver for CAM School District. In 2007 Ralph and Patricia retired and moved to Wiota, Iowa.
Patricia was a lifelong active member of the Wiota United Methodist Church where she was involved in numerous clubs and committees.
She enjoyed quilting, cooking, and baking her special chocolate chess pies and German chocolate cakes. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband Ralph, her parents, and a few siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert Simmons of Wiota, IA, Ron (Vicki) Simmons of Sheffield, IA, Richard (Rosemary) Simmons of Ankeny, IA, Roger (Cindy) Simmons of Pekin, IL, and Robin (Craig) Scholl of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren, Audrey Simmons, Cole Simmons, Miranda Simmons, Kallie (Andrew) Kachel, Devin Simmons, Nikki Simmons, Cheyanne Scholl, Savanna Scholl and Dakota Scholl; two step great-grandchildren, Colton and Kade Kachel; and an honorary son, Dave Schwarte.
Visitation with family will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA.
Following the visitation, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 25, 2021, also held at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, IA. Following the burial a lunch will be held at the Wiota Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Simmons family to designate to charities at a later date.
