(Corning) KSOM’s football broadcast on Friday will feature SW Valley. The Timberwolves are at AHSTW.
SW Valley is coming off of a 29-0 win against Sidney. “I like that we overcame the adversity of a Week 1 loss.” Coach Anthony Donahoo says it had been eight or nine years since they’ve lost in Week 1. “To come back from that and get better I was very, very proud. We did a great job shoring up some of things we did on the offensive and defensive lines and our running backs not turning the ball over.”
After being held to 208 yards of total offense in Week 1, they rumbled to 334 yards on the ground last Friday night. Leading that attack was quarterback Brendan Knapp who is closing in on the program’s career rushing yardage record. “Brendan took over the last two games of his freshman year and has started ever since and hasn’t let up. This is a kid that rushed for 1,000 yards last season. He’s a threat with the ball in his hands and is a tough kid to tackle.” In Week 2 Knapp had 185 yards on 16 carries and is just over 300 yards away from topping the career rushing output of Chance Cobb.
SW Valley is preparing for an AHSTW squad which beat IKM-Manning 20-16 in their opener, but fell flat against Earlham 40-7. “Their roster is loaded with some really, really good players. They have a lot of guys that have played a lot of football for a lot of years. Raydden Grobe and Denver Pauley I can’t say enough about. The Pauley kids seems like he’s been playing for four years.”
With the strength of this district, Donahoo says the playoffs started last week. He feels their could be as many as six teams in the district are capable of being playoff teams.
