Marvin Allen Piittmann, son of Clarence and Alma (Heech) Piittmann, was born on September 7, 1934 in Avoca, Iowa. He attended school in Avoca and graduated with the class of 1952. After graduation he served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957.
On May 17, 1959, Marvin was united into marriage to Barbara Wendt. Together they raised two children: Troy and Audra. Marvin worked for James Schueman Trucking and farmed until his father passed away and then took over Piittmann Seed Company. He served on City of Avoca City Council and the Water Board before being elected as City of Avoca Mayor for two terms. He was instrumental in getting the sidewalk to the swimming pool constructed, for which he received the Man of the Year Award, as a recognition for this amazing feature for the community of Avoca.
On Monday, August 30, 2021, Marvin passed away at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan having attained the age of eighty-six years, eleven months and twenty-three days. He was preceded in death by his parents Alma and Clarence Piittmann; sister Lorna and niece Marta Lynn.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Barbara Piittmann of Avoca, Iowa; son Troy Piittmann of Avoca, Iowa; daughter Audra Piittmann (Russ Dickerson) of Boone, Iowa; nephews John Deschamp, Jim Deschamp, Doug Wendt, Darrin Tooley and Justen Tooley; nieces Terri Tobin, Kimberly Hoffman and Robin Heilig and their spouses; many great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca. Pauley Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
