(Atlantic) Four candidates have filed papers for Mayor. The candidates started lining up after Mayor Dave Jones announced he would not seek re-election.
Three current council members have thrown their hats in the ring for the seat including; Pat McCurdy, Kathy Somers, and Grace Garrett. On Wednesday, the Cass County Auditor’s Office announced that a fourth candidate,  former Atlantic Mayor Tim Tieg filed papers for the position.
Teig was 29-years old when he served one term on the City Council and defeated four other candidates in the 1985 Mayoral election.
Teig says he gained a lot of knowledge serving as a councilman and mayor and working with airport commissions, DOT, USDA, and other organizations.
During his time as Mayor, Teig says he was instrumental in recruiting two major manufacturers to Atlantic.
Tieg says housing is another issue the City is working on and discussing, and he says he has a lot of experience in housing development, and feels he can definitely help there.
Tieg says there is an endless number of issues, and the community has done some great things. Tieg says he was looking over a list of objectives when he was Mayor in the early 1990s, and he says 80-percent of those items on the list have been done.
The official day to file for City Offices was August 23, and the filing deadline is September 16.
