(Atlantic) Forty-three teams played in the 7th Annual Atlantic Alumni “Smackdown” Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club.
What started as six teams seven years ago has grown to 43-teams this year, with alumni ranging from 1967 through 2016.
“Thirty-four teams participated in last year’s tournament, and this year it’s grown to 43-teams,” said Tournament Director Kevin Fergason. “It’s the most non-competitive golf tournament you’ve ever seen. We have reserved both Nishna Hills Golf Course and the Atlantic Golf and Country Club next year to accommodate a large number of teams.
“The logistics will be challenging, but we will work through it,” said Fergason. “I have a great group of volunteers.”
The funds generated from the tournament go to various activities and programs. This year Tournament Director Kevin Ferguson presented a $1,000 check to the Atlantic Senior Alumni Scholarship Foundation. Since 2003, the foundation’s total scholarship contributions totaled $175,580. To date, the foundation has awarded 58 scholarships totaling $72,500.
The Foundation recently approved three $2,500 scholarships for the Class of 2022.
Next year’s tournament is scheduled for August 20.
