(Anita) On Tuesday night, the CAM School Board voted 4-1 to accept the facility committee’s recommendation to upgrade facilities in Anita and Massena to house Pre-K-6th grade students at Massena and 7th-12th grade students at Anita. CAM school district patrons will vote on the plan on November 2.
Committee Chair Chris Spieker presented the recommendation to the School Board before the vote.
An overflow crowd attended the meeting at the Superintendent’s Office in Anita. Several of the attendees voiced their opinions before the vote of the school board. The recommendation followed a recent straw poll last month narrowing the public’s choice to two options; the one voted on by the board and the other option which was realigning elementary facilities at both Anita and Massena, and all 7th-12th grade students at Anita.
Committee member Tammy Williamson said she was caught off guard at the last committee meeting when asked to vote on one of the two options when she felt the entire community was still split.

Angela Oglesbee says the district needs to take the CAM first approach.
School Board members Gary Dinkla, Julie Williamson, Nick Kaufman, and Mike Plagman voted for the recommendation. Chuck Kinzie voted no. The referendum must receive 60-percent of the vote to pass.
