(Council Bluffs) The Class 1A State Baseball Tournament gets started Monday morning in Carroll.
Among the area teams in the field is 4th ranked and 32-8 St. Albert. They meet 25-13 Lisbon at 4:30 p.m. Coach Duncan Patterson’s team has won ten straight games. “Pitching wise we’ll have everybody back…July 1st we beat Abraham Lincoln. I told them it would just be great if we could go undefeated in July and see where that gets us.”
The Falcons are in the state tournament for the third time in the last four years. “I always looked at Harlan when I first started coaching and Steve Daeges had that awesome program, year in-year out. So I kind of went off what he was doing and that’s something we went to build at St. Albert and keep those kids going from 8th grade. We play 8th graders on varsity so we give them experience. We are going to lose some games during the season, but younger kids are getting experience.
The winner advances to a state semifinal against either #10 Tri-Center or Alburnett on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
