LaVinna Blanchard of Oakland, Iowa died on July 18, 2020, at the Oakland Manor at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 9 days.
LaVinna was born on January 9, 1930 in Oakland to Henry and Janet M. Turner Killion. She joined a brother Leonard H. Killion. She lived in Oakland and graduated with the Class of 1947. She worked in Omaha for a year, upon returning to Oakland she then worked at Criswell Drug until 1950. She was united in marriage to Harold “Doc” Blanchard on May 16, 1950. They had two daughters, Jacquelyn and Sherri. After her marriage, she worked for Oakland Acorn for three years. They then purchased Glass Oil, where she helped at the station. In 1984, she started driving a school bus for Oakland and Riverside School and retired then in 2010.
LaVinna was a member of Oakland Methodist Church in Oakland for over 60 years and Atlantic Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed bowling, golf, traveling and liked to play cards. She loved spending time with family and friends.
LaVinna was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Harold “Doc” Blanchard, her daughters, Jackie Hildebrand and husband Don of Oakland, IA and Sherri Blanchard and friend Tye Williams of Carson City, NV; her grandchildren: Chris and wife Chris Hildebrand, Danene Hildebrand and Terry Zimmerman; her great-grand child, Ayden Zimmerman; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 19, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be at a later date. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
