(Area) Ras Smith, Democratic candidate for Governor in 2022, made a campaign stop in Atlantic Monday evening.
Ras Smith is a native of Waterloo where he currently resides with his wife and two daughters. He has a small organic farm in Grundy County with his in-laws where they farm mainly strawberries and asparagus. Smith said he really jumped into the electoral realm after working in the middle school as a family support worker/social worker with his role in Communities in Schools and so he took his passion for young people and education to the capitol.
Smith, a state representative, said he is really proud of the relationships he has been able to build during his time in the legislature…
Smith said those are some of the things that inspired him to run for Governor…
Smith highlighted some of his goals; one focus is on supporting families, students and educators…
Smith said we also need to address climate change…
Smith said that also includes looking at the impact the climate is having on agriculture…
Smith said there is so much more that unites us than divides us and we have to get back to being the Iowa that we know and love…
