(Atlantic) Drones are becoming a valuable tool for law enforcement officers and emergency responders.
On Friday morning, Jennifer Pidgen, owner of Sundance Media Group LLC, and one of her instructors trained Officers from the Atlantic Police Department, some members of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and Atlantic volunteer Fire Department on using the drone to map out a simulated two-motor vehicle accident.
Pidgen says the data from the drone will be installed into a software program to download the individual photos into one, showing all the details of the accident. Pidgen says drones are becoming a big tool in helping law enforcement officers and first responders.
Pidgen says the drone is also being used for search and rescue.
Pidgen says not only can they find people in distress with thermal imaging, but rescue personnel can deliver water, a two-way radio, or a survivor kit, depending on where they are.
Pidgen says Sundance Media not only helps law enforcement understand the technology but understand the FAA rules and regulations. She says drones are not a toy or an item taken off of the shelf, and it is a federally regulated industry. Pidgen adds, flying drones is no different than driving a car. Owners need a certificate to understand the rules of the sky.
