(Atlantic) The Atlantic softball team picked up their 13th straight win on Monday night with a 10-2 Regional Quarterfinal win over Red Oak.
Kennedy Goergen picked up the win for Atlantic in the circle. The senior allowed two runs on five hits struck out nine, and walked one batter in 5 and 2/3 innings of work. Olivia Engler picked up the save with 1 and 1/3 innings of work, striking out three-of-the four batters she faced.
The Trojans scored ten runs on nine hits. Malena Woodward led the way with three singles and a three-RBI double. Olivia Engler drilled two doubles. Maddie Botos, Lauren Nicholas, and Ava Rush each stroked singles.
Alexa McCunn went two for three at the plate for Red Oak with two doubles and two RBI. Kamryn Wendt hit a double, and Merced Ramirez and Lexi Johnson added a single for the Tigers.
The Trojans plated one run in the first and three runs in the second to open up a 4-0 lead. Atlantic pounded the plate in the fourth inning with nine batters yielding five runs led by Woodward’s three-RBI double. Engler also smacked a double to help push the Trojans to a 9-0 advantage.
The Tigers kept after it and scored two runs on two hits in the top of the fifth inning. Timberly Bentley reached base on an error, Kamryn Wendt followed with a double, and Alexa McCunn belted a two-bagger and drove both runners home to close the gap to 9-2. The Trojans added one more run in the sixth inning to seal the 10-2 win.
Atlantic’s record is now 31-5 and host 3-18 Cherokee, Washington in a Class 3A Regional Semifinal on Friday at 7:00 p.m. We will have the broadcast on 95.7 FM. The pregame starts at 6:40 p.m.
