(Harlan) Luke Hubbard allowed just three hits, walked two, and stuck out five in a St. Albert 10-1 victory at Harlan Monday night. The Class 1A 4th rated Falcons sweep the season series and improve to 25-8 overall.
Hubbard gave up two hits in the first, but was tough for the Cyclone batters to crack after that. The senior right hander had a pair of stretches where he retired seven straight including setting down the side in order in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings.
Harlan scored their only run of the game in the 1st inning. Quinn Koesters singled and stole 2nd. After an Isaiah Ahrenholtz walk, cleanup man Luke Musich drove in Koesters with a single. The only other big scoring threat for the home squad came in the 4th inning when an Ahrenholtz single and two batters hit by a pitch loaded the bases with one out. Hubbard got the #7 hitter in the order to strikeout, followed by an inning ending strikeout.
St. Albert got their offense rolling in the 4th. They didn’t get a hit off of Harlan starter Teagon Kasperbauer through the first three innings, but Brendan Monahan’s bunt single got the Falcon bats on track. Jaxson Lehnen, Carter White, and Dan McGrath followed with consecutive singles and the team would post ten hits over the final four innings. They took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the 4th before going on to score three in the 5th, two in the 6th, and two more in the 7th.
Every starter had a hit, run scored, and/or RBI. Colton Brennan was 1/2 with two RBI and three runs. Isaac Sherill had a two run double. Cy Patterson posted a sac fly in the 1st inning for his state leading 60th RBI of the year. Brendan Monahan was 2/3 with an RBI and two runs. Jaxson Lehnen had two hits, scored twice, and drove in a run. Carter White was 2/3 with two RBI. Dan McGrath Eric Matthai, and Brett Klusman each singled. Matthai, Klusman, and Jeff Miller each scored one run.
Harlan’s hits were from Koesters, Ahrenholtz, and Musich. The Cyclones fall to 12-13.
