(Story Co.) One person died and three others were injured after a vehicle struck several pedestrians in Story County this morning.
The Iowa State Patrol says Mary Nienow, 59, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, was transported to Mary Greeley by EMS. Nienow died from her injuries. Linda Nordstrom, 67, of Huxley, was transported to Des Moines Methodist by EMS. Rikkie Powell, 30, of Huxley, was transported by personal vehicle to Mercy Hospital. A 6-year-old from Huxley was transported to Mercy by Mercy One Air.
According to the report, the accident happened at Main Street and Tama Street in Slater at 11:03 a.m. Karen Wheeler, 75, of Cambridge, was in a 2007 Hyundai Sonata and was parked facing south on Main Street with pedestrians in the roadway after the City parade. Wheeler backed out of the parked position and struck multiple pedestrians. Nordstrom was ran over and left in the roadway. Powell was struck and knocked from the path of the vehicle. The child was drug under the vehicle.
The accident remains under investigation.
