(Elk Horn) A string of three consecutive conference wins has the Exira-EHK baseball team feeling better about their odds come postseason time. The Spartans are 9-11 on the season heading into a matchup with CAM on Wednesday. We’ll have the game on KSOM and through out video stream at WesternIowaToday.com.
Coach Tom Petersen says their bats are getting on track. They downed Glidden-Ralston, Ar-We-Va, and Boyer Valley last week and reached double figures in the run column in each contest. Their only blemish last week was to ACGC. “I feel like the bats have finally started to get rolling. I was pretty happy overall with what we did last week. I think the kids are seeing the ball a little bit better. The #1 thing is just putting the ball in play and then getting guys in scoring position.”
Tyler Kingery is among the hitters that has heated up. He’s increased his batting average to .298 while Tyler Petersen and Trey Petersen are each batting above .250. Coach Petersen says a patient approach at the plate was beneficial in their loss at CAM earlier this season.
Things are winding down in the regular season. They’ll have just two games left after Wednesday’s clash with league champion CAM. The Spartans are scheduled to play both IKM-Manning and Orient-Macksburg next week before starting district tourney play.
