(Atlantic) Cass County Emergency Management Director Mike Kennon reminds residents of changes coming to the Alert Iowa Emergency Notification System. The state changed the contract for the system, and anyone who is signed on to receive weather warnings and other emergency alerts will need to re-register by July 1.
Kennon says Alert Iowa Emergency Notification System is provided by the State of Iowa. The change is similar to the former contract; it is still called Alert Iowa and will still come across the cellphone. Residents with an Alert Iowa account will get weather alerts and local public safety alerts such as a hazardous materials spill in a particular area.
Kennon says currently, 2,000 Cass County residents are registered under the current system. Kennon would like to increase the number of accounts under this new system.
Kennon notes; the public safety alerts are minimal, and residents can customize their account on issues they want notification.
Resident can register by logging onto the Cass County Emergency Management Facebook page or the casscountyiowa webpage.
