(Red Oak) Red Oak Fire Fighters battled a hay fire on Monday morning.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce says the call went out at 11:54 a.m. to 2228 140th Street, approximately 50-hay bales on fire. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the blaze was located close to a pole barn housing farm equipment.
Chief Bruce requested mutual aid for tanker support. Fire Departments responded from Stanton, Elliott, Grant, and Villisca. Also on scene were Montgomery County Emergency Management, Officials from the Southwest Iowa Rural Water Department, farm staff, and Greenfield Excavator to bury the charred bales. Firefighters contained the blaze and protected the pole barn and equipment.
Chief Bruce says a fire pit located northwest of the bales ignited the stack of bales.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce extends his sincere thank you for the assistance from all of the agencies involved and the farm staff. There were no injuries reported.
