(Des Moines) The Iowa Department of Public Safety and a handful of other agencies will focus on impaired driving during a statewide special enforcement project, June 9 through June 12.
According to statistics:
*Every 48 seconds, someone dies in a crash involving an impaired driver.
*Impaired driving claims over 10,000 lives per year.
*A typical OWI costs a person over $10,000.
*Thirty-four percent of fatalities are linked to an impaired driver.
The agencies partnering in the project include; The Iowa Department of Public Safety, Iowa Department of Transportation, Iowa Department of Public Health, Iowa Traffic Fatality Reduction Task Force, and Iowa Insurance Division.
