(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley softball coach Abbey Queck has seen a strong start from her team.
Coach Queck says chemistry has been a big bright spot so far. “On and off the field they are cheering for each other. They are so excited. We have a lot of girls in different positions and they are helping each other out and asking questions. I would say team chemistry is my favorite thing right now.”
Coach Queck is in her 2nd season with the program and believes some continuity has helped enhance that chemistry. It’s a pretty young group. “We have a handful of juniors, we have one senior. We’ve had a couple of sophomores step up, we’ve had some freshmen step up. Jorja Holliday has done awesome, Bella Hogan, Maddax DeVault has really stepped up in the one hole. I would say just up and down the lineup you never know who it’s going to be and they’ve all done a nice job producing for our team so far.”
Jorja Holliday and Whitney Lamb will handle the pitching duties this season. “Jorja has been really on point right now. She’s one of our kids that plays all year round so she’s been pitching and is ready to go.”
It’s still early in the season, but coach Queck has already noticed a big jump from last season in the team’s offense. Among the big highlights so far this year was a grand slam from Jorja Holliday in the team’s season opening win against Shenandoah.
