(State) Teresa Breyfogle of Galva-Holstein, Iowa City High’s Teesa Price, and Jessica Gehrke of Iowa City West are the 2021 Inductees into the Iowa Girl High School Athletic Union’s Track & Field Hall of Fame. Breyfogle will be inducted during the Class 2A/3A finals at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, May 22nd at Drake Stadium. Price and Gehrke will be honored at 4:10 p.m. during the 1A/4A portion of the Saturday finals.
Breyfogle accumulated five state championships and one runner-up title while competing at Galva-Holstein from 1989-to-1993. She is one of eight athletes to claim the state title in the high jump three times. She is also the only athlete ever to win the high jump and long jump competition twice. Breyfogle continued her track and field career at Buena Vista University and was a six-time NCAA Division III All-American (twice indoors, four times outdoors). To highlight her career, Breyfogle was the outdoor national champion in the high jump in 1996.
Price ran for Iowa City High from 1996-to-1999 and graduated as a 14-time state medalist. Four of those medals were individual championships. Price’s career-best time of 14.1 in the 100 hurdles ranked sixth on the Iowa all-time list when she graduated. That time tied for 12th all-time when the hurdle heights were changed in 2009. She went on to play soccer for the University of Iowa.
Gehrke was a key piece of Iowa City West’s track team from 2006-to-2010. She claimed six state championships and four runner-up finishes. She also anchored two all-time record-setting 4×100 relay teams: once at the state meet and at the Drake Relays. Gehrke ranks 19th on Iowa’s all-time list in the long jump with a career-best leap of 18-11¼. After being a 15-time state medalist in her high school career, Gehrke attended Florida International for volleyball and track. Her track career was brief to allow her to focus on collegiate indoor and outdoor volleyball. Gehrke was inducted into the IGHSAU Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2017.
Also honored Saturday at the State Track and Field Meet will be the 2020 Hall of Fame inductees; Taylor Twedt of West Fork, Morgan Casey of Northeast, and Sioux City East’s Ellen Dougherty. Twedt and Dougherty will be honored at 4:10 p.m. during the 1A/4A finals. Casey will be inducted during the 2A/3A finals on Saturday at 11:05 a.m.
