(Atlantic) On Wednesday, the Atlantic School Board approved Superintendent Steve Barbers’ contract, amended the 2020-2021 budget, and approved substitute employee pay rates amongst other items on the agenda.
The board approved a 2.5 percent pay raise for Schools Superintendent Steve Barber. The increase amounts to $4,873.
The School Board also approved the 2020-2021 amended budget to the “Total Support Services” category from five-million-seven-hundred-fifty-five thousand, seven hundred and seventy-two dollars, to six-million dollars. The district had unexpected expenditures in this category primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By increasing the number for this area of the certified budget, the district will ensure the amount spent does not exceed the certified amount.
The change in estimates of expenditures will be financed from increased receipts and balances not budgeted or considered in the current budget. School Officials added there will be no increase in taxes to be paid in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021.
The School Board also approved changes to the Substitute rates. The substitute teachers’ daily rate will increase from $130.00 to $135.00. The Substitute non-contracted teacher based on the salary schedule in the Master Contract increased from 25.05 to $26.11. The secretary/clerical staff received a pay raise from $11.00 to $13.00. The substitute bus drivers will get an $8.00 increase to $34.00. The seasonal custodian, grounds, and summer cleaning seasonal employees receive an hourly increase from $11.00 to $12.00, and para-educators receive a $2.00 increase from $11.00 to $13.00.
