(Oakland) Nishna Hills Golf Course in Atlantic is the site for the Western Iowa Conference Golf Tournament. It’ll be played on Wednesday with a 9:00 tee time.
Riverside coach Mitch Rice has seen continued improvement from his boys team this season. “Everybody is kind of coming down. Having multiple scores in the 40’s really helps. Ethan Reicks and Wyatt Hough are doing a really nice job as our two seniors. Going into conference we’ll just have to see. I have three freshmen rounding out the varsity lineup that have never played in an 18-hole high school tournament. So that’s going to be completely different for them because it gets longer and you get tired. The expectation is just going to be to continue to lower our scores.
Coach Rice breaks down the boys field which includes back-to-back individual medalist Kyler Rasmussen, of IKM-Manning. “Treynor and IKM-Manning are going to be pretty tough on the team side for sure. They are both shooting pretty good scores consistently and their 1-6 are able to contribute. Coby Fink (Underwood) and the Konz brothers at Treynor are playing well also as far as individuals go. I think Ethan has a shot to get in their and make some noise as an individual.”
The Riverside girls have two solid contributors at the top of their lineup along with two newcomers. “McKenna Sick is doing a really good job and then our freshman Adi Brink has medaled or been runner-up in three meets this year which is really good for our girls program. Then we have two girls that took up golf for the first time with Kia Meek and Lilly Mace and they are getting there.”
Rice describes the girls competition as wide open on Wednesday, especially for the individual title.
