(Des Moines) Iowa House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen of Greenfield voted this week for some amendments to a House bill banning the vaccine passports in certain locations or denies entry to people who haven’t received the COVID-19 shot. The Bill passed 52-33, and 15 did not vote.
The Bill bans forced disclosure of whether or not a person received the COVID-19 shot and denying certain entities such as businesses and universities from receiving state grants or contracts-including effective date provisions. The House version exempts health care facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, and daycare centers.
A spokesperson for the Iowa Hospital Association said hospitals need to have a patient’s medical history, including information about vaccinations, to provide the best care. The association opposes changes in the bill.
The House version of the Bill doesn’t stop entities from screening protocols.
