(Greenfield) Iowa House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen of Greenfield says the mental health tax levy plan released by the Senate last week is geared toward removing the mental health levy from property taxes and shifting the system’s financing from county property taxes to state tax dollars.
Sorensen says this is a complicated issue requiring a lot of discussions.
Sorensen says the proposed plan is bigger than just eliminating it from the property tax levy. He says they must also consider the service part of the plan.
Sorensen says the Senate plan doesn’t outline how the state would manage the revised system, only how it would pay for it. Sorensen says that if the Iowa legislature continues maintaining responsible budgeting, it needs to be determined how the proposed plan would affect the budget five or ten years down the road.
