(Atlantic) The Cass County Board of Supervisors received an update from Cass County Conservation Director Micah Lee at their meeting this morning.
Lee said they have a route nailed down that they are pursuing to expand the T-Bone trail. The trail would be extended just short of 3 ½ miles.
Lee said they have met with a few landowners along the route and they still have some more to meet with. He said if the landowners agree to go forward then they will work on an engineering plan.
Lee also mentioned that they have had a lot of vandalism at the Nodaway area.
Lee said they have a plan to alleviate that.
Lee told the Supervisors that they had a fish kill in the main pond at the Outdoor Classroom.
Lee said the pond was way down going into the winter and the snowfall and ice must have sucked up all of the oxygen. Lee said the DNR is going to try to get out there and shock it to see what is left and what they need to do as far as stocking fish.
Also at the Outdoor Classroom, Lee said the District Forester walked through the trees and several of the ash trees she looked at had the Emerald Ash Borer. Lee said her recommendation was that they could take all those trees out right now or they can take down few over time as they die. Lee said at this time they do not have a plan for taking down the trees.
Lee also noted that they are trying to get back to normal with their programs. He said they will be doing their fishing derby again in June; they will just lower the number of kids that can participate so they can spread out and social distance.
