(Anita) Molly Venteicher is the first member of the CAM girls track team to ever qualify for the Drake Relays.
The Cougar senior has a shot put season best of 41-03.5. “The first few track meets she kept breaking her own record. Then she threw 41-03.5 and the nice thing about it is she’s been consistent. She’s thrown 40 feet multiple times.”
CAM coach Luke Symonds says Venteicher has had steady improvement throughout her entire career. CAM not only has their first ever girls qualifier for the Drake Relays, but also Connor McKee will run the 400 Meter Low Hurdles and be the first ever boys track qualifier for CAM at Drake. “It’s a really big thing that we have Molly Venteicher and then Connor McKee for the boys. To have two in one year is pretty special. It’s something that both of them should be very proud of. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. You have to be good at what you do and take time to get better at the craft. Those two have definitely done that.”
Entering this week, Venteicher laid clam to the 6th best throw in the state. McKee is 11th in the 400 Lows with a best of 56.11.
**Editor’s Note: CAM has had athletes compete at Drake in the past, but they have not had any previous athletes QUALIFY for Drake based on times, heights, and distances.
