(Area) After a week and a half of above average temperatures a change is coming in the short term weather outlook.
State Climatologist Justin Glisan looks for cooler than normal conditions to persist into the middle of April. “We’re moving into elevated probabilities for colder than average temperatures. This doesn’t mean we are going to get into an extreme cold snap. The average temperatures during the middle of the month for the state are a high of 61 and a low of 39. We don’t expect temperatures to get below freezing for an expanded period of time.”
Glisan was on a conference call with Secretary of Ag Mike Naig this week and they foresee favorable planting conditions. “It looks like we are going to have an excellent planting window as we did last year, so knock on wood.”
The signal for April, May, and June as a whole is for warmer than average temperatures and equal chance for above or below average precipitation.
