(Atlantic) Average temps in the state for March were warmer than normal and precipitation totals were above average.
“The preliminary statewide average temperature was about 42 degrees and that’s over six degrees above normal. On the precipitation side the preliminary statewide average was around 2.7″ and that’s nearly .6″ above normal.”
State Climatologist Justin Glisan says snowfall was 2.5″ below average at a total of just 2.2″.
Southwest Iowa averaged 45 degrees or six degrees warmer than normal. Precipitation in this corner of the state was slightly above four inches or more than half an inch above average. Despite much warmer than normal conditions there were no record high temperatures.
“No, given that the statewide average was about six degrees warmer than normal we had some higher temperatures, but nothing historically record breaking.”
Atlantic’s highest temperature was 76 degrees which happened on the 10th and the 29th. The coldest overnight low was 20 degrees on both the 19th and 20th. The average low was 31 degrees or five degrees warmer than expected. Atlantic received 3.06″ of precipitation or .9″ above the 30 year average.
