(Atlantic) On Wednesday, the Atlantic City Council approved a right-of-way agreement with Massena Telephone Company on a proposed plan to install fiber-optic lines along West 7th Street in Atlantic.
Mike Klocke, the CEO of Massena Telephone Company, said he intends to test the waters, see what the take-rate is, how many customers they can pick up, and how it works.
In his note to the Council, Klocke says the plan would be to have cable in the county easement on 635th Street in the bus barn’s vicinity. Phase one would continue west from there along 7th Street to Hy Vee and extend south on Hospital Drive and 10th Street near the Dentist’s Office.
Klocke says they could extend north to Ash Street toward Atlantic Carriers. He says this is a dense area to get an idea of what kind of a take-rate they could expect as they move forward and plan for future projects.
Klocke says the goal would be to eventually continue gradually west along 7th Street through the business district as their cash flow allows, probably a little bit each year. He says they’re watching for grants from the State and Federal levels that might help speed the process along.
