(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council agreed to provide a letter of intent for the Shift ATL application for a Rural Innovation Grant. The grants range from $1,000 to $20,000.00. The group needs a letter of intent from the City before they can apply for the grant funds. The application is due by April 16.
Shift ATL has proposed a project partnering with the City and the school district’s building trades program. The City recently acquired the property on 1310 Chestnut Street. Lund says the group could potentially rehab the house rather than demolish it. Shift ATL is interested in applying for a Rural Innovation Grant to pay for materials to build a garage on this property. The high school industrial tech classes would furnish labor. Additionally, Shift ATL is interested in working with the City to own this property as part of a flipping project.
Shift ATL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to get more community-minded people involved in the Atlantic’s economic development.
The estimated cost of constructing the garage is around $22,800.00. The estimated cost of the flatwork drive portion of the project is around $4,700.00.
The timeline would be for the students to start construction in the fall of 2021, with rehab scheduled for the spring of 2022.
