(Atlantic) US Senator Charles Grassley toured Elkhart Plastics in Atlantic Wednesday afternoon.
The stop was part of his annual 99 county tour. Typically Grassley holds a town hall meeting at the depot, but circumstances have changed. “It’s been a little bit different for my county tour during the pandemic. Down here at your railroad station is where I normally have my town meeting and anyone can come, but if the Governor puts a limit on the number of people you can have on a room and you were the 51st person, you wouldn’t appreciate it if a politician told you you can’t come to a town meeting.”
So he’s improvised to get in front of as many people as possible with stops at factories, high schools, and hospitals. It’s been a win-win. “I learn about an industry I wouldn’t know anything about unless I went there. Because in Iowa we don’t brag about the good things we do. None of these people that are here would’ve been able to get off work to go to the railroad station so it gives me a chance to interact with people that wouldn’t go to an open town meeting.”
Montgomery and Mills County are the next two stops on Grassley’s tour.
