Funeral services for 77 year old Marilyn June Cody will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 10:30 AM, at the Carson United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Carson Cemetery. Open visitation will be held at the Carson United Methodist Church on Friday starting at noon. Visitation with the family will take place at the Carson United Methodist Church on Friday, March 26, 2021, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Facial coverings and social distancing will be encouraged at the visitation and funeral. Marilyn’s service will be livestreamed on the Carson United Methodist Church Facebook page. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marilyn June Cody, the daughter of Leslie Wayne and Elva June (Vought) Mullins, was born October 20, 1943, in the Greene County Hospital at Jefferson, IA. Marilyn died at her home, on March 23, 2021, at the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 3 days.
Marilyn was baptized and confirmed at the Farnhamville United Methodist Church in Farnhamville, IA. She attended Paton Consolidated School District, where she graduated in 1961. After graduating, she moved to Des Moines, where she worked for the telephone company. Marilyn met Francis Cody at the skating rink in Spring Lake County Park in Grand Junction, IA. On May 12, 1962, they were united in marriage at Marilyn’s parents farm in Paton, IA. Four children were born to this union: Richard, Ronald, Michaele, Randall. They moved to Council Bluffs for a short time before buying a farm near Griswold, IA, in December of 1964.
Marilyn’s faith was shown through her activities that she loved. She was a member of the Carson United Methodist Church. She had taught Sunday School, had been a Bible School teacher, a member of the UMW, had participated in Bible Study Class, and most recently had especially enjoyed the Prayer Team. Marilyn worked at the Council Bluffs Post Office for 20 years. She was very active in the Carson and Macedonia communities and had served as a Pottawattamie County Election Official.
Marilyn had such a kind heart with the most beautiful smile. She was so generous and giving. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, and church family. At home, you could find Marilyn gardening, cooking, or mowing. Marilyn experienced great joy living out her faith in church and in the world.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband Francis on July 9, 2011; her son Richard on November 29, 2016; her parents; her sister Joyce Long; her brother-in-law Jim Gilley; and her son-in-law David Chappell.
She is survived by her children: Ron Cody of Macedonia, IA, Michaele Carman and husband Brad of Griswold, IA, and Randy Cody and wife Lynn of Carson, IA; her daughter-in-law Ann Cody of Oakland, IA; her grandchildren: Justin Cody and wife Katie, Jesse Cody, John Cody and wife Taylor, Becca Cody, Sarah Cody; her great grandchildren: Isabelle, Cayne, Hannah, and Logan Cody; her brother Derwood Mullins of Paton, IA; and her sisters Janice Gilley of Grand Junction, IA and Jolene Miller and husband Chuck of Bellevue, NE; and her “Texas daughter Shelly Rhoten”. Marilyn is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and so many special friends.
