(Elk Horn) Exira-EHK has hired a new Secondary Principal.
Nate McDonald will join the school district in an administrative role according to Superintendent Trevor Miller. “He’s currently a teacher, AD, and coach at Logan-Magnolia. We interviewed four individuals and had 18 applicants. We had two committees and they interviewed four of them for roughly an hour each. They got together afterwards and Nate came to the top as our committee’s top choice.”
The Exira-EHK school board has elected to make no changes to their current policy on facial coverings. “The mask mandate will be in place until we address it at our April meeting. It was a good discussion. I know other districts have made some changes where they are going back to expected.” Miller says, “Right now it’s just trying to keep kids in school and if you’re not wearing it it could send larger numbers home. Right now we’ll keep it as is and see what happens in April.” Miller says the current mask requirement was left in place by a 5-1 vote.
The district will hold their public hearing on the budget next month. “There was a little change in facilities because we are going to do some roof repair. That number will seem a little higher, otherwise the numbers are all right in place. When it’s published next week you’ll see a three cent decrease on taxes. Anytime tax payers can see that that’s kind of a plus. Things are going well and fiscally our district is sitting well.”
Miller adds the certified staff has agreed to a 3.13% raise for next year.
