(Guthrie Center) A strong junior class is ready to lead the way for the ACGC boys track program.
Of the 44 athletes on the team, only one is a senior. Coach Cody Matthewson will lean heavily on the junior class. “Charlie Crawford, Miles Kading, and Trevin Suhr are all good 800 runners. They all are good 400 runners. This will be Miles Kading’s first year out and competing for us. That list goes on and on. There’s a lot of kids that are going to be juniors for us this year.”
Victor Gonzalez and Cael Hoing lead a deep group of throwers. “Victor Gonzalez has been a good asset for us in the fall. We are looking for him to carry that over. He’s been a 40′ thrower as a freshman and was last year. Cael Hoing didn’t go out his freshman year, but did last year. He’s a spinner in the shot put ring which is pretty crazy for a kid that’s over 300 pounds. He’s got great footwork, very powerful, very explosive.” Matthewson says they have fifteen throwers on the squad.
There’s some talent returning in the sprints. “Cayden Jensen and Austin Kunkle have looked really good. You have a lot of students that didn’t really get a chance to compete last year and we have kids that are so diverse.”
The team does not have an indoor meet on the schedule this year, but hopes to participate in a scrimmage soon.
